Environmental Education Classes/Presentations for Adults

Cost of Litter

Do you know that littering  (yes, litter - that trashy stuff we see on streets, parks, in waterways, and other places it doesn’t belong) is ILLEGAL, and that it affects ALL of us?  How?  Property values in littered neighborhoods plummet, and taxes go up (SOMEBODY has to pick up the trash!).  Littered areas often see an increase in neighborhood crime, and litter can cause vehicular accidents and injuries to children and animals.  Litter also affects public health, plant growth, and it looks awful!

During this class, I will prove to your group through interesting and eye-opening props, facts, and stats that litter is very damaging and greatly affects quality of life in the entire world.     (Can you guess THE most littered item IN THE WORLD?)

The Journey From the Trash Bin to the Landfill

Want to learn what happens to the stuff you throw away every day, and learn exactly where “away” is?   We’ll also go over the 10 WORST THINGS that end up in a landfill that we throw away every day!  During this class I will show you the journey trash takes from your garbage bin to the transfer station and, ultimately, to “the dump”.

Recycling 101

Why should we all care about recycling?  Because the earth doesn’t have an endless supply of natural resources!  Recycling is something we all can do – it’s easy/peasy!

During this class, we’ll go over what can and cannot be recycled (and why), and the impact that China’s refusal to take any more of America’s recyclables is having on our economy.  We’ll also go over where to take or send unusual items for recycling, and where you can take a tour of a recycling facility in your area so you can see the entire process “up close and personal”.  I guarantee you’ll be impressed by the sheer volume of city trucks that dump out the recyclables they picked up, how quickly the recyclables speed by on conveyor belts as they are separated into different areas for plastics, glass, paper, and metals.

Water 101

Why in the world should we conserve water, especially during a rainy season?  Because you’ll be amazed at how much water you use – and waste – every day and why that matters to our water reserves.  In this class I will help your group learn why is it critically important to keep our waterways clean and healthy.  If you’ve never heard of the GREAT PACIFIC GARBAGE PATCH, I’ll show you startling photos that will make you re-think your thoughts about litter in creeks, canals, lakes, rivers, and the ocean.  Lastly, I’ll share with you how volunteering in community waterway cleanup events makes a huge impact - something each of us can do.

Testimonials

I have the most amazing network of friends and support. My good friend Casey made a button and magnets with my son's photo. She also made handmade postcards for me as well. I have ordered 50.

Casey owns Earth Inspired Crafts & Education. She is GREEN and everything she makes is repurposed from its original purpose. Casey also teaches classes for small groups.

Jill E.

Casey is an excellent, enthusiastic, and entertaining speaker who brings to life relative and education material in such a way that the kids can completely understand. She is very animated and fun during her presentation so the kids remain completely engaged and excited to the very end. The kids leave so eager to share the info with their family and friends, and I know for a fact that the kids change their own lifestyle after hearing her presentation on litter and the effects it has on our earth, our animals, and our water and food. Huge impact on the kids - they cling to every word! The visuals Casey brings with her are incredible! She certainly knows how to capture her audience and educate them at the same time.

Skaggs Elementary

Ms. Eckert was expert in knowledge and delivered in a very coherent and persuasive case on the evils of littering. She captured the students' attention from the beginning and never lost their interest in her cause. No changes should be made to the process. Props were great in highlighting key points.
